Clinical
Practice
My clinical practice
has 3 main out-patient bases; The
Grange Consulting Rooms in Cleckheaton. The Orchard Centre in Horsofrth and Park
View Medical Clinic in Middlesbrough. I no longer care for inpatients, but am
happy to admit patients to the Cygnet Hospital Harrogate for private inpatient
treatment under the care of one of my former colleagues.
I have a broad
based practice in adult and old age psychiatry. In the past 12 months
I have dealt with 275 new referrals (excluding medico-legal practice).
My main clinical
activities include:
General Psychiatric
Practice
- Assessment,
diagnosis and management of patients referred by their general
practitioner.
- Liaison with
other health professionals in both the independent and NHS sector
- Section 12
assessments under the Mental Health Act for Trust Hospitals and
Social Services
Old Age Psychiatry
- Assessment
of early dementia
- Treatment
of dementia with appropriate anti-dementia medication
- Visits to
residential/EMI homes
- Assessment of capacity under Mental Health Capacity Act 2005
Occupational
Health
- Occupational
psychiatric assessments for various agencies within the public
and private sector
- Founder member
of GP Health, an occupational health services for general practitioners
in the Cleveland area.
- Reporting
member of SOSMI (Survey of Occupational Stress and Mental Illness,
University of Manchester)
- Visiting consultant psychiatrist - Wellwork occupational health
service, Lincoln.
- One day a month, I see patients for, or give advice to, the occupational
health department of St James' University Hospital, Leeds.
Miscellaneous
- Founder member of Northern Trauma Services, a confederation of experienced
mental health professionals who co-operate in the assessment and treatment of psychological
ill-health following trauma.

- GMC appointed supervisor for doctors with mental health problems who have been
permitted to continue the practice of medicine under supervision.
