Current
Post
Since the beginning
of August 2000, I have been working in full-time independent
private
psychiatric practice with consulting facilities in Cleckheaton, Leeds & Middlesbrough.
Also Newcastle by arrangement.

Section 12 approved
doctor for North Yorkshire, providing emergency psychiatric assessment
under the Mental Health Act.
Approved Deprivation of Liberty Assessor for North Yorkshire PCT, in relation to the Mental
Capacity Act 2005
Over the past
few years I have lectured on a wide variety of mental health matters
to GPs, specialists, occupational health doctors, midwives, health
visitors, benefits agency medical officers.
I regularly
provide occupational health assessments and reports for employers,
including local authorities, the NHS, industry and higher educational
establishments within the region.
Previous
Experience
For 10 years
between August 1990 and August 2000, I worked as a full-time NHS
consultant in adult and old age psychiatry, based at the Friarage
Hospital in Northallerton. I led the mental health team in my sector,
serving a population of approximately 46,000.
Between 1996
and 2000 I was the Clinical Tutor and Director of Postgraduate Medical
Education at the Friarage Hospital in Northallerton.
For five years
from 1995 to 2000, I was the psychiatric College Tutor and in that
capacity I was the educational supervisor and mentor for psychiatric
trainees attached to the Friarage Hospital.
Between 1994
and 2001 I held a weekly clinic at HM Remand Centre in Northallerton,
providing psychiatric support and clinical opinions for the prison
medical authorities and participating in the local custody diversion
scheme. Arising out of this work, I regularly provided reports for
various Courts in the region.
In 2000 I moved to work fully in the independent sector, and based my practice
at the Cygnet Hospital in Harrogate until 2009. For most of that time, I was the Medical
Director, responsible for audit, appraisal and clinical governance. Whilst there, I was the
clinical lead for eating disorders and PTSD.
Continuing
Professional Development
I remain in
good standing with the Royal College of Psychiatrists in respect
of continuing professional development. I participate regularly
in the 360 degree appraisal scheme approved by the Royal College
or Psychiatrists.
In December 2004 I graduated in Law through the
Open University at the end of a 4 year undergraduate course.
In May 2008 I was awarded a Diploma in Occupational Medicine by the
Faculty of Occupational Medicine at the Royal College of Physicians.
